The Smallest Minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities. - Ayn Rand
I guess this just goes to show that zombies are real.
I liked the comment on the original article that said that after his disgrace he was obviously teaching because he liked to teach. I would think that the more obvious reason he was teaching even in disgrace was that he liked to eat.
And d'you know who the sniper was?
I found Waldo!
*sigh* You beat me to it. I wasted time trying to dig up the original comment from Markaphasia, but for the life of me, Google was unable to help. Anyone have a link?
I just can't understand why the guy eschews his obvious calling - he is a terrific writer of fiction.
The thing of it is, his fiction consists of stringing together one cliche from The Narrative after another. In this one he's got the JDSalinger-kid, A shy but exceedingly bright student... The Psycho War-Vet, never spoke in class, cut his hair short, and began wearing military boots and fatigue-style clothes. The jungle drums of Vietnam foreshadowing callout, the Gulf of Tonkin Incident= BUSH LIED!! The psycho-sexual Older Woman component, his first encounter with enemy fire, which had been chaotic and without consequence. The Heroic Feminist Rebel-Resistance Against Overwhelming Odds, an amazing paper showing “don’t ask, don’t tell” to be an example of military discrimination, The Sudden Interruptus, his brother had died - from a Sniper's Bullet! The Breakdown of Order, his attendance became erratic,...
It's all there and it's enough to clog the toilet.
Leave it to Dirt to put this one to bed like no one else can!
I'd just done the big yawn when I read, "Disgraced Historian, Michael Bell..."
C'mon, wasn't the snark obvious enough with the qualifier of terrific? DC that was brilliant.
