I've been saying to the deranged for nearly 16 years now: the republic has survived worse. Four more years.

Juris:

It's also true that there is a tipping point and once it's reached and passed it'll be too late to correct it.

Yeah, I wanted to say, can't we do better or something?

The difference being that the gutless repubs WON'T filibuster for fear of offending their friends across the isle.

The thing that worries me are the Supreme Court seats Obama might be able to fill. He personally might not be able to do irrevocable harm to the USA but those appointments might.

We survived Jimmy Carter, but Jimmy was just a dim bulb, not a Marxist. The key to the next four years is to not let the Dimocrats in general, and Obama in particular, avoid responsibility for the damage they do. With the media curled up in his shorts, that's gonna be difficult.

jsid-1225984438-598805  DJ at Thu, 06 Nov 2008 15:13:58 +0000

And it's started already. The headline in the NYT is

"Obama Aides Tamp Down Expectations"

The first sentence is:

"President-elect Barack Obama has begun an effort to tamp down what his aides fear are unusually high expectations among his supporters, and will remind Americans regularly throughout the transition that the nation’s challenges are substantial and will take time to address."

What? No miracles?

But, but, he can do magic, can't he?

jsid-1225986808-598807  theirritablearchitect at Thu, 06 Nov 2008 15:53:28 +0000

"Obama will become President, but he won't be dictator or king, let alone deity."

Here lies the problem, Barry thinks he is dictator now, and people will just have to follow his orders.

It's obvious from the way he speaks and terms that he uses that things will just have to go his way.

Remember the civil servant/civil master saw, here. That's exactly the way the man thinks.

He's dangerous, and in many ways, I fear, moreso than even Slick Willie.

"I've lived long enough to absorb this basic truth: the US is too large and too strong to destroy in just 4 years. Or even in 8. We survived 6 years of Nixon. We survived 4 years of Carter. We even survived 8 years of Clinton, God alone knows how."

Don't be so sure.

One of my grandfathers was born in Russia in 1901. He ran from the Communists in 1923, finding refuge, and a place that offered his children a chance to have a better life, on our shores. In the early 1950s my father was a teenager and in his early 20s. Like most males of that age, he was a bit full of himself and like most children of immigrants (at least at that time), he was immensely proud of his country. But he made the mistake of saying to my grandfather words to the effect of "the USA is so rich and powerful that it'll be here forever." Grampa said to him, "My son, you don't know what you're talking about. When I was 11, all of Russia celebrated the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty. My grandfather's grandfather's grandfather didn't know a world without the Romanovs ruling Russia with an iron fist. No serious challenge to them ever existed. The Czar WAS forever, so far as we knew...and 5 years later the entire royal family was shot and dumped down a well. Learn this lesson: NOTHING is forever."

I love my country dearly, and would sacrifice dearly for it, and for the bright future it offers my children. However, it IS possible to end this great experiment. We're well on the way, and if the folks in charge turn our system on its head enough, if they weaken us enough, we're in deep trouble. We may not be able to recover, and that worries me. For that reason, we must be ever vigilant and be prepared to call the SOBs on various mistakes that they'll inevitably make, and to oppose them with every fiber of our being. If we don't, we deserve the fate of the Roman Empire and that of the Romanovs.

I've been kind of disappointed that Obama hasn't conjured up herds of rainbow-farting unicorns to brighten up the country. What's he waiting for?

Seriously, I can't wait for the disappointment and disillusionment that is inevitable to smack his idiot supporters right between the eyes. There's an old saying: "Be careful what you wish for, you may get it." Well, the libs wanted power, they wanted an empty-suited master of rhetoric to be the POTUS - and now they've got it. Let's see what the SOB and his minions can accomplish. They will, of course, say "Bush's fault" as easily and as often as they breath, but that's going to get old rather quickly. Like I said, I can't wait until reality hits them between the eyes.

There was an interesting quickie on The News last night, a short interview of Miles Hall, owner and proprietor of H & H Gun Range and Shooting Sports Outlet in Oklahoma City. It is a very nice place that has roughly quadrulpled in size over the past two years or so. I have shot there, bought three guns there, and qualified for my CCW license there. The gist of the interview was that the rate of sales of guns at H & H had roughly quadrupled since the election.

The (ahem) color added to the interview was provide by a black couple who had come in to buy guns for themselves before what they foresaw as the inevitable restrictions enacted during the reign of Obama. They didn't say who they voted for (or against).

Normally I would agree, but I expect the Democrats to offer the 12-20 million illegal aliens in the USA amnesty and citizenship in exchange for their votes.

Once they've done that, we are completely fucked. I grew up in New Mexico, and have a pretty good idea of the character of the average illegal alien. They will gleefully vote for full on communism, while murdering, raping, and stealing from everyone around them. They are scum, and within the next two years they will probably be our fellow citizens.

Editor's note: While I don't doubt there's a few that meet your criteria, I reject your painting "the average illegal alien" with such a brush. I don't ban people here much (Hi JadeGold!) but consider yourself forewarned.

Y~The commentators here have hit the nail on the head. He is great at rhetoric. Remember that.

No matter what reckless, spendthrift policies he implements, no matter how badly thought out and rammed through as laws, when the brown stuff hits the big whirly thing and he's looking for re-election, IT IS ALL THE FAULT OF (fill in the blank).

How about good old George W, or the recession or international pressures or..

In short it won't be his fault and he needs another 4 years to get it right by more spending etc.

There is a tendency for people to tell everyone who will listen if someone has ripped them off for $10. They are remarkably silent if they have been ripped off $100,000 or 1,000,000 or more ...

The funny thing is the sniping that's started already on the left.

The thing that worries me are the Supreme Court seats Obama might be able to fill.

Sorry, you really can't do worse than Stevens and Ginsburg - the two most likely to go.

If you were a Supreme Court Justice, you were a strict constructionist, and you were not at death's door, would you voluntarily retire during Obama's reign? Methinks not all is lost. Yet.

I laughed my ass off when I read this headline. Y'see, on Fox News front page, it read

"Obama Seeks $$$ Advice"

I thought, golly dude, don't you have all the answers?

Then I clicked to the story and found the headline to be:

"Obama Meets With Team of Economic Experts"

And I laughed some more, for the same reason.

Now, look at the first sentence of the story:

"President-elect Obama is calling on economic experts to discuss the first steps ..."

Yup. He needs help right off the starting blocks.

I can imagine him standing in front of a mirror, right after the election was over and he'd won, thinking, "What the hell do I do now?"

Damn, but it's gonna be a long four years.

This is magnificent, as entertaining as it is sickening. Here is a teaser:

"Less than fifty years ago, African-Americans were barred from public universities, restaurants, and even drinking fountains in many parts of the country. On Tuesday we came together and transcended that shameful legacy, electing an African-American to the country's top job -- which, in fact, appears to be his first actual job. Certainly, it doesn't mean that racism has disappeared in America, but it is an undeniable mark of progress that a majority of voters no longer consider skin color nor a dangerously gullible naivete as a barrier to the presidency."

RTWT. Really.

"Obama Seeks $$$ Advice"

Hmmm, they forgot to put in the comma:

"Obama Seeks $$$, Advice"

There.
