I've been in two Cabela's as well as my local gun store in the last 2 weeks. All three had people waiting to buy guns as there was not enough sales staff.

While I was trying to decide which 1911 to buy yesterday three or four handguns were sold. Wandered over by the EBRs and a guy walked up to the clerk, pointed at a AK47 on the wall and said I'll take one. Salesman goes "do you want to look at it?" Customer "No. Just write it up." They are selling themselves right now.

More anecdote; here in Tyler TX the gun dealer I patronise put in an order for 27 used SK/S rifles (sorry, no details as to source or history) as a pre-paid group order for a bunch of his customers. During the four days it took for the first order to arrive, a second group got the word late and he sent off an additional order - again all rifles having an identified buyer, no spec items for store display - of 15 more. The first order arrived Friday mid-day and as a result yet a third order is being compiled for next week sometime. Maybe he'll be able to get a few extras for the store display rack this time. As it turns out, two of the initial 27 have faults (will fire but won't extract) and I'm negotiating for one of these. I'm holding out for under-$200 (the rest went for $220 or thereabouts).

On a related note, I was able to buy 500 rds of 7.62 ammo for $100 (all I had cash on hand for). It's another Russian brand called Monarch (7.62x39, 123 gr FMJ) and is touted as being "much cleaner than Wolf" - which may become the classic example of damning with faint praise. Anybody here got any actual experience of this stuff? Is this SHTF supplies or trade goods?

Yup. Two of my local Mom and Pop stores have been going nuts of late. 20 or more people in at a time, all buying guns, ammo (coming down in price somewhat, from what I'm seeing), magazines...you name it.

I put in an order from K-var for more mags and a bunch of spares. Also purchased, what, 3K rounds recently, I think. Might spring for an AR before the week is over.

Gun show I was at this week end had a frickin' LINE at the ammo table. I missed the last case of 7.62X39 by one person. I mean the people in line weren't buying a box or two of .45ACP or .223 or 9mm, they were buying cases and multiple cases.
