Is anyone else deeply disturbed (below and beyond the current Presidential election) that this symbol of "peace, hope and unity" requires the one making the symbol to raise both hands over his or her head?

Regardless of exactly what you do with your hands once they're up, is this not an almost universal gesture of submission? (Not just among humans, but among all primates?)

The very first thing I thought of when I saw this the first time was the crossed-wrists Ingsoc salute from "1984".

When I've said I was "scared" up to this point, I was talking about a rational antipathy. If this thing catches on, I'll be saying "scared" in the gut-level, lock-the-doors-and-load-the-guns way.

As one of the fourteen people that watched a bit of the anime Big O, I find it completely impossible to take this remotely seriously. Every time I try and think about it, all I can do is imagine Obama at the podium proclaiming "Oh my God, I'm one of the tomatoes!, and I dissolve in helpless laughter.

Is that supposed to be an O?

It looks more like a big Zero to me.
