The Smallest Minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities. - Ayn Rand
Didn't Golda Meir say something about Israel having peace when the Palestinians love their children more than they hate Jews?
"We will have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us."
Yes, indeed she did. And apparently someone in the Arab world listened, and decided that they never would.
And another quote from yesterday is quite relevant today. It was Margo Howard, daughter of Eppie Lederer (Ann Landers), who said:
"If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel."
It's a good song -- a bit squishy of a message but the bit about "if they love their children too" is quite true -- the ultimate basis of Mutually Assured Destruction as a deterrent.
It's something we don't have in the current war, because the Muslim Fascists *don't* care if they or their children die or not. It's glorious to be a martyr.
This is a terrifying enemy, and I don't think that most westerners truly comprehend the nature of the evil we face.
Orson Scott Card, in the essay you link in your next post, comments tellingly on this point -- the hope we have is that the parents of the children being recruited as jihadis *do* love their children.
or... We offer freedom, they offer to blow your kids up for you.
I misstated in my previous comment. They do care if they blow themselves up, as evidenced by the stories I keep seeing about unwilling "suicide" bombers (including the canine variety). I would also be willing to bet that they are far happier to recruit somebody *else's* kid to go die than use their own.
