I feel perfectly safe making the blanket statement that people who live in the Northeastern United States are mostly as stupid as a bag of hammers. You just don't elect people like Charles Shumer and Hillary Clinton and John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, etc. by accident.
People get the government and the consequent crap they deserve.

Having been born and raised in New Jersey, from which I escaped, and in talking to those who've stayed AND who've moved to NC from both New York and New Jersey, I have to agree with Will.
I've had a dental technician from NJ who lives here now tell me she was not 'permitting' my handgun, in my purse, on my lap, into her personal space. (Index fingers on outstretched arms sketching a semi-circle around her.) It wasn't her office, she just worked there and my lap is not her 'personal space'.
I could have put it more politely, but come on, if I said, "most southerners are stupid inbred hicks" or "I feel perfectly safe saying the majority of Germans are nazis", would I not be out of line?
you guys are all so easily excitable -- theres' already a carry permit for NY you register for it's good for 4 or 5 years. she just never bothered get one. the whole idea is to know whose walking around with loaded guns.
Sam, have you tried to get a carry permit in the city? Do you have any idea what's required to get one? Do you have any idea how few have been issued, or to whom they've been issued?
If you're politically connected or a celebrity, you can get a carry permit. If you're just a private citizen, your chances are much, much lower.
It isn't a matter of not "bothering" to get one.
